Sermons

Environment

  • Caring for God’s Natural Creation (“The earth is the Lord’s” helps us reflect on how the Lord wants us to use His natural creation to serve generations of people preparing for heaven.)

Evangelization

  • Make Disciples Of All Nations (Making disciples begins with bringing our own affections to follow the Lord, and extends to teaching others who act from charitable motives.)

Guest Preachers' Sermons

Holy Spirit

Life After Death

  • Angel Mothers (Natural maternal love must be reborn into spiritual maternal love which cares for the intelligence, wisdom, and regeneration of the child and adult.)
  • Waking Up To Eternal Life (Waking up in the spiritual world follows patterns by which we wake up to eternal life in the natural world. The Lord’s care for us is seen in the process.)

The Lord

Parenting

Repentance

  • Fleeing From The Presence Of The Lord (Sermon on coming into the Lord’s presence by reading His Word, thinking of Him in His Divine Humanity, and especially by shunning those evils which hold us back from true charity, thus by throwing attitudes of self-serving into “the sea.”)
  • Self-Compulsion
  • Shunning Deceit  The deadly nature of deceit and other forms of bearing false witness, and shows in Solomon's execution of Joab a model for how we must deal with the deceit that threatens our humanity.

Spiritual Development

  • Advancing in Wisdom (We advance in wisdom when we think from heaven, have knowledge from the Word, and put it to use in our lives.)

Temptation

  • Jonah In The Fish’s Belly (Family address on turning to the Lord in trying times, as only the Lord in His Divine Human can save us, even though it has been fleeing from Him that may have put us where we are.)

The Word

  • Greater Than Solomon's Glory  The sermon looks at Solomon in his glory as a picture of the Lord in His glorified Divine Human. Just as even Solomon's sin of idolatry could be used to picture in the spiritual sense something good about the Lord, so the Lord can use even our faults and mistakes to serve a use for His kingdom.

Shift: Small Changes. Big Difference. [Jacob's story.] (A New Church Journey Program)

  • Week 1 - Shift of Awareness: notice the conflicts. Getting Our Priorities Straight  by the Rev. Kurt Horigan Asplundh (Which is first in the church, love and charity or truth and faith? Doctrine teaches that love is first in end but truth is first in time.)
  • Week 2 - Shift of Perspective: Remember the Lord is here, now.  Surely The Lord Is In This Place (even though we do not know it. Chiefly He is present in our freedom, in His Word, and especially when we are receptive to Him.)
  • Week 3 - Shift of Focus: Keep in mind who you want to be.  Serving For Rachel - Focusing Spiritual Goals (As Jacob’s focus shifted to marrying Rachel, so our heavenly goals come to focus on loving and applying specific truths of the Word to life.)
  • Week 4 - Shift of Expectations: Have patience with the process. Keep Loving Spiritual Things (Expectations of how ready you are for heaven may shift, but don’t let go of the Lord’s goals for you: keep diligently following the Lord.)
  • Week 5 - Shift of Motivation: Recognize when it's time to make a change. Rise Up And Return (When we see our mixed motives are hindering our spiritual progress, we are ready to shift to purer motives.)
  • Week 6 - Shift of Confidence: Hold on through the wrestling.  Confidence in Goodness (To change from learning truth to living by it, our confidence needs to shift to a confidence in goodness–that it is good to live by truth.)
  • Week 7 - Shift of Heart: Show your love. Love Takes The Lead (By learning and living according to them, truths must be prepared step by step into an order that good can flow into, for love to take the lead in life.)
  • Week 8 - Conclusion.  Return To The House Of God (The Lord made Himself the House of God so that in receiving Him in ourselves, we could have the House of God in us, and He could dwell with us.)

In God's Image and Likeness (Having rationality & freedom)

The Beatitudes, Matthew 5:3-12 and Luke 6:20-26

The Lord's Prayer, Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4

Special Occasions

Easter & Palm Sunday

New Church Day

Thanksgiving

Christmas

  • Human Minds Conjoined With Heavenly Minds  (This Holy Supper address speaks of how the Holy Supper was instituted to bring the church on earth together with heaven.)
  • Angels Prepared The Way Of The Lord (What role did angels serve in preparing the way of the Lord, historically and in our lives? How did they work with John the Baptist and the Lord in His Divine Human, who are also meant by “the Angel” in Malachi’s prophecy?)
  • Angelic Joy Over The Lord’s Advent (This talk introduced a nativity re-enactment by reflecting that the angelic concept of joy at the Lord’s coming includes all that makes life joyful in heaven to eternity. The Advent’s implications for a life of useful service are at the heart of their joy over it.)
  • Guided By Angels (The Lord uses many means to lead people to Himself. The star depicts the knowledge of Divine truth, the angelic associates, and the Lord Himself which all lead people to Him according to a person’s affection or love.)
  • How Do Angels View the Generation of Jesus Christ? (Christmas Day sermon on the birth of Jesus Christ as the angels might view it in the spiritual sense of the genealogy which introduces that birth, in Matthew’s gospel.)

National/Love of Country

  • He Teaches My Hands To War (Memorial Day sermon)
  • Power To Lay Down One's Life (A Holy Supper address, given on the 10th anniversary of 9/11) remembering the Lord's laying down of His life, and how those who died on 9/11 may have been doing likewise, as we must also do in our life of useful service..
